Constantly looking to innovate and improve to stay at the top of the game, Zipp has just announced several updates and new versions to their already well-known and successful line of carbon road wheels. After releasing the new 303 S wheelset just a couple weeks ago, Zipp came back with improvements to their wheel known 202 Firecrest, 302, 303 Firecrest, and 404 Firecrest wheelsets. These wheelsets now feature tubeless-ready rims, updated ZIPP graphics, and, in all except the 302, a disc brake version to stay up to date with the latest trends in road cycling.

Check out the breakdown for each new wheelset below to learn what is new in the line of 2020 Zipp wheels.

ZIPP 202 FIRECREST

The Zipp 202 Firecrest Tubeless Disc-brake wheelset harnesses high technology for high adventure. This wheelset is tubeless ready for road riding that doesn’t always stay on smooth pavement. The Zipp 202 Firecrest Tubeless retains its 32mm rim depth for a classic feel with real aero benefits. The wheel’s 21mm internal width is aerodynamically optimized for use with 28mm wide tires.

Its tubeless design lets you run lower tire pressures for improved grip and rolling resistance without the risk of pinch flats. At the center of the 202 Firecrest Tubeless Disc-brake is a durable and versatile new hubset. The ZR1 DB hub offers greater bearing durability and quicker engagement with a Center locking brake interface.

FEATURES

  • New Zipp graphics and cosmetic identity that scream speed
  • Aero, durable, and light weight at classic 32mm rim depth
  • New ZR1 DB hub is engineered in Germany with better seal design for improved durability and quicker response with 66 points of engagement
  • Center locking rotor interface. Lockring is included
  • XDR or SRAM/Shimano driver bodies
  • Ships with 12mm front and rear end caps
  • Campagnolo driver body sold separately
  • Tubeless ensuring secure performance even when ridden at lower tire pressures

ZIPP 302

Zipp’s 302 Tubeless rim-brake wheelset delivers dependable speed for aspiring and experienced cyclists alike. This wheelset provides great value and performance. The 302 is now tubeless, allowing you to run lower tire pressure for greater cornering grip and reduced rolling resistance without the risk of pinch flats. Its 45mm deep Indianapolis-made carbon rim is optimized for low aerodynamic drag and precise handling in all riding conditions.

The 302’s smooth carbon rim is laced to Zipp’s 76/176 hubs using Belgian CX-Sprint spokes and brass spoke nipples to build a wheel that is fast and reliable—tough enough to thrive in the big Gran Fondo or the road less traveled, yet light enough to tackle the steepest grades. The 302 is equally suited to training rides or duking it out at your local race series.

FEATURES

  • New Zipp graphics and cosmetic identity that scream speed
  • XDR or SRAM/Shimano driver bodies
  • Ships with QR end caps, quick release skewers
  • Campagnolo driver body sold separately
  • Dependable 76/176 hubs with Sapim CX Sprint J-bend spokes

ZIPP 303 Firecrest

Zipp’s 303 Firecrest Tubeless Disc-brake wheelset is designed for the real world…a world of imperfect conditions, road surfaces, and elements where the bottom line is simple. Efficiency = speed. It’s faster, lighter, and more capable over varied terrain—whether the surface is pavement in all its conditions or no pavement at all. Deeply rooted in Zipp’s drive to conquer the Spring Classics, the new 303 Firecrest is remade with a purpose-made approach for the demands of modern road bikes. When it comes to going fast on a bicycle, efficiency means reduced: Wind resistance, rolling resistance, rider fatigue, weight.

The 303 Firecrest Tubeless Disc-brake was designed using real-world direct measurements (vs. primarily wind tunnel or computer simulation). The results were huge. Its rim is slightly more bulbous in design than its predecessor, with a 32mm outside width, a 25mm internal width, and a 40mm rim depth. The profile provides low drag and an improved transition between rim and tire, boosting aero efficiency on the road. The wide rim stance also features less tire deflection for reduced rolling resistance. The combination of the wider tire, increased tire volume, and lower tire pressure helps to reduce rider fatigue by smoothing out the ride over imperfect pavement and road conditions—the tire and wheel system absorbs the shaking, not the rider.

At the center of the 303 Firecrest Tubeless Disc brake is a versatile and durable new hubset, the German-engineered ZR1 DB. This hubset features 66 points of engagement for quicker response. The 303 Firecrest Tubeless Disc-brake wheelset is for dedicated cyclists who aspire to the latest in technology. Its competitors…in races, against peers, or simply conquering personal limits. This is about becoming faster and matching your motivation to the most advanced technology.
